Amir ‘first Arab leader’ to be honored by UN

amirKUWAIT: His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah is the first Arab leader that has been given a certificate of appreciation from the United Nations for his tremendous efforts in supporting humanitarian causes, the Minister of Information said yesterday. Sheikh Salman Sabah Salem Al- Humoud Al-Sabah, who is also Minister of State for Youth Affairs, said in a statement that the certificate is a testimony of the huge efforts that His Highness the Amir put out in hosting two donors’ conferences for the Syrian people to alleviate their suffering.

His Highness’ support for humanitarian causes was not limited to the Syrians but also was seen in other parts of the world, he pointed out. “Philanthropic activities, regardless of color, gender and religion, are well known of His Highness the Amir who always seeks to help others,” Sheikh Salman noted. He added that Kuwait, under its wise leadership, will continue offering help to whoever needs it out of the belief in the United Nations declaration of human rights that calls for collective efforts in achieving global peace and security.

Hence, Kuwait has hosted many regional and international events that aimed at improving social and living standards of many nations. In a recent report by Oxfam, international confederation of 17 organizations working in approximately 90 countries worldwide to find solutions to poverty, showed that Kuwait was among the leading countries in giving financial support and honoring their pledges to the Syrian refugees.— KUNA
