Bahrain: ANHRI Denounces the Deportation of three Media-Professionals and the Use of Excessive Violence with the Protesters

The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information (ANHRI), denounces the use of the excessive force by the security forces in addressing the peaceful demonstrations that took place in several Bahraini areas to assert on their refusal to held the Forumala 1 in the Bahraini territories. ANHRI also denounces the deportation of three media-professionals due to their coverage to the political events.

The security forces dispersed on the evening of Saturday, April 20, 2013, several peaceful demonstrations that took to the streets from Deeah, Jad Hafas and Sanabs. These marches were headed to the pearl roundabout in Manama in order to respond to the calls launched by the coalitions of February 14. The forces used tear gas bombs and shot gun bullets to disperse them, which resulted in several injuries among the demonstrators as a result of the heavy gases and the firing the bullets toward the demonstrators randomly.

The security forces, April 19, 2013, arrested more than 35 citizens in addition to arresting 8 children in addition to storming 16 houses in different areas in Bahrain.

In a related context the Media Affairs Authority decided to deport media-professionals in the British TV Network (ITV) outside of Bahrain, on the background of covering the political events that took place in Bahrain before the begin of F1 after they were held for a short time in one of the police stations on April 19, 2013 and allow them to continue their work after they were banned from completing shooting the events in the same day and accusing them of violating all the regulations and laws related to the media work.

The Media Affairs Authority mentioned that it had adopted this procedures in coordination with the concerned bodies to ensure violating the Bahraini National Security.

ANHRI said: “the persistent violations committed by the security forces against the peaceful citizens and demonstrators, is a serious violation to the freedom of expression and assures with no doubts that the regime disregard the calls and demands of the international and regional organizations that urge and demand it to respect the freedom of expression and peaceful demonstrations”.

ANHRI added that the deportation of the authorities to three journalists due to covering the political events that are taking place in the country, exposes the false allegations of the authorities that it opens the doors and provides all facilities to the media-professionals and journalists to exercise their work, which contradicts with the fact on the ground”.

ANHRI demands the immediate release of all the detainees and respect the freedom of expression and peaceful demonstration.
